Drew’s 9th Birthday!

Drew buddy turned 9! I checked Drew out of school and took him to lunch. Seth met Drew and I at Cafe Rio and we had a great lunch together. While in line, there were some firefighters that overheard it was Drew’s birthday and they had the Cafe Rio employees sing to him. Drew was a bit embarrassed but I think he secretly enjoyed it.

This year is a family birthday and he wanted to go to Classic Fun Center to go roller skating. The kids all seemed to have a really good time, even with the interesting crowd you get at those skate places. 🙂

And then home for cake and present…what a fun day!

He is a Bear cub scout now!

Drew is such a good kid. Although he can be a normal rambunctious little boy, he is generally a quiet little over-achiever. He loves to read, build things and play computer games, but most of the time he can be found either on our basketball court or the soccer field. He is quick and coordinated and works hard. One of the cutest things is that recently Drew has started going to the adult choir practice in our church. Every Sunday morning he gets on his suit and heads to practice and then performs with them each month when they sing in church. It really is the cutest thing! We love our Drew buddy!

Merry Christmas 2016

Merry Christmas 2016! We had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas day that involved lots of traditions, time with relatives, presents, and most importantly thoughts and reflections of the birth of our Savior. Wishing all of you and yours a wonderful Christmas holiday.

Manina’s 40th Birthday

Manina is 40! She requested to keep things small this year, not wanting to inconvenience anyone during the busy holiday season. But even with her request, she managed to have a pretty jam-packed day of celebration.

First thing was a breakfast and an all-expenses-paid shopping trip with a couple close friends. Emily, Penny and Manina enjoyed breakfast at the Black Bear Diner and then shopped at Downeast and then went on to Manina’s favorite store, the Loft. She found lots of cute outfits, and bought all of them.

After the shopping spree, Manina came home for Ellie’s gingerbread program (our last one) and a quick lunch and then it was off to Megan’s basketball game.

Right after Megan’s game, we drove to PF Changs for dinner. We enjoyed a semi-formal dinner with the kids (that usually doesn’t happen – we were happy they were well-behaved this time).

After dinner we all drove down to the Marriott Center for a BYU basketball game. Nick Emery, TJ Haws, Erik Mika and company all put on a pretty good show against Cal State – Bakersfield. The Roadrunners got within 10 towards the end, making the game a little nerve-wracking, but the Cougs held them off.

On the way home our neighbors even lit up their house with pink and yellow lights (because Manina had teasingly mentioned it a few days earlier).

While it was a great day, the highlight was all of the nice comments and notes and gifts that many people sent. Manina certainly has a way with people and has many friends who helped make her day very special. Happy birthday, Manina!

Thanksgiving in St. George

This year we went to St. George for Thanksgiving because Megan had a soccer tournament, the Dixie Cup. I always love any excuse to head down and visit with my dad and Kathy.

If you haven’t had a deep-fried turkey, you are missing out! My dad makes a killer fried turkey. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Seriously, the best!

Our Thanksgiving was filled with yummy food, family time and lots of soccer!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy 7th Birthday Ellie!

This year Ellie’s 7th birthday happened to fall on Thanksgiving. We had plans to spend Thanksgiving at my dad’s home in St. George. Of course G’pa Gary wasn’t gonna let a birthday get by him without an ice-cream cake from DQ (our favorite!).

Although she wasn’t able to have a friend party this year, she still had a fun little celebration with family. I love this little girl who is not so little anymore. She is so thoughtful and aware of other people’s feelings. She cleans better than most adults and is super organized, efficient and responsible. She has a keen fashion sense and is our little fashionista, always suggesting outfits and appropriate accessories for everyone. We can’t imagine our family without this perfect bookend. We sure love you Ellie!

What is Your Story: Reflections 2016

Every year a few of my kids like to enter the Reflections contest that we have at our school. Claire had taken this picture of trails splitting on a hike we had gone on this summer. She entered it into reflections relating it to how your story is determined by the path we take and no matter what path you take, you can get a great story. It was pretty creative and she won the Award of Excellence (the highest award) for photography and advanced on to the next level. Nice job Claire!
