Sledding fun

It’s been a while since our last sledding excursion, so to celebrate the first day of Christmas vacation Jacob, Megan, Katelyn and I all went out to enjoy the snowy hills.

Today was a perfect day for sledding, not too cold, no wind, recent snow. Katelyn got a bloody nose, but no other injuries were reported. We had a blast. And, I managed to shoot a few good photos and even some video. Continue reading “Sledding fun”

Drive-thru Santa

I don’t want to sound like Ebenezer Scrooge, but sometimes all the Christmas hustling and bustling and shopping ’til dropping has me saying, “Bah, humbug!”

However, one of the traditional activities is now much easier — the children’s visit to go see Santa at the mall has been replaced by our city-sponsored drive-thru Santa. It’s brilliant. The police block off a stretch of road, and you drive by a live Nativity and then into a parking lot where Santa opens the door, takes requests from the kids, gives out some candy canes and other goodies, and then sends you off. No pictures, no lines, no malls, no problems. Finally, some real benefits from our hard-earned tax dollars. Continue reading “Drive-thru Santa”

Process it and let it go

So I flat out lost $100. Gone. Two crisp fifty dollar bills that Seth’s mom and dad gave us for Christmas (early so we could do Christmas shopping) that are now either in a dumpster somewhere or in some less-than-honest guy’s pocket.

It all started last night when Seth and I went to his company’s Christmas party. They rented Costco from 10pm till midnight and gave everyone gift cards to spend, served hors d’oeuvres, and had a live band. Other than the time of night, it was a nice gathering. After a few shrimp and a couple Italian sodas we were beat, but we also needed to purchase a few staples: diapers, wipes, milk, etc. It was when we went to pay for our items at the register that the fifties vanished. Anasazi Ridge

The oldest three kids and I made the hike to Anasazi ridge during our Thanksgiving trip to St. George. Anasazi ridge (also known as Land Hill) is kind of a strange place. There is no real trail head, no signs on how to get there. It’s public BLM-owned land, but it’s a tough place to find out in the middle of nowhere.

After parking and hiking about a half mile up and over seemingly barren ridge, we found the spot. There were lots of big boulders filled with petroglyphs. It was well worth the hike. The kids had a ball scrambling around the rocks finding different shapes and symbols. Continue reading “Anasazi Ridge”

Thanksgiving in St. George

This year we spent Thanksgiving at my dad’s place in St. George. We rarely get to spend the holidays with my family because they are generally in Alaska, but with my dad having a place closer we get quite a few opportunities to visit him. We had a great time!

The kids got to test out Grandpa’s new yellow golf cart. That was the hit of the visit. The kids begged for rides all day. Jacob loved it because he could drive it by himself (with supervision of course). Truth be told, I think Seth enjoyed it the most and often said the “kids” wanted to take it for another spin…yeah right! Continue reading “Thanksgiving in St. George”

Soon it will be Christmas day…

We set our tree up early this year, last Sunday to be exact. We knew we would be out of town after Thanksgiving so we got a head start. There is something super exciting about pulling out the Christmas decorations and setting everything up. The kids went crazy. The did almost all the decorating, all the while dancing to Christmas songs and reading through the Christmas books. It was so sweet to watch. Even little Drew found some interesting items to slobber on. Continue reading “Soon it will be Christmas day…”

Hair, beautiful hair!

I just love my little Claire. She keeps me on my toes every day. Right now it is either swimsuits or princess dresses all day. I can change her a million times and it only takes a few minutes to have her back in her preferred attire. I even hid all her swimsuits (it is getting too cold to be running around in swimsuits) and sure enough she came running up the stairs adorned with one of Katelyn’s swimsuits. I give up. I don’t even care if she wears one all day any more. Continue reading “Hair, beautiful hair!”

Two down

Megan lost her second tooth this week. I guess when one falls out they all start getting lose. A picture of her is posted below. Notice the glasses she is wearing. I probably wouldn’t even have posted about her losing her second tooth except this day she decided to wear her pretend glasses to school. She wore them the whole day and was so excited to finally have glasses. They are too big for her but she thinks they look great, which is cute. I just think it is funny. I would love to NOT have glasses. It is interesting what kids wish for. She can’t wait for braces for her teeth and crutches for a future broken leg either. If only she knew… Continue reading “Two down”

Happy 5th Birthday Katelyn!

Katelyn turned 5 on Wednesday. I find it a hectic time to have a birthday as we are barely over the Halloween chaos, but Katelyn made it easy this year. She said she would prefer to forgo a big party and instead, take a trip to Build-A-Bear. We have been there often to get an outfit or two for the girls’ bears, but her bear was starting to look pretty worn and she wanted a new one. So off we went to Build-A-Bear and that is where her new bear Holly, was born. Continue reading “Happy 5th Birthday Katelyn!”

Happy Halloween!

We hope everyone has a spectacularly ghoulish Halloween! Our Halloween will be filled with class parties, trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, scary movies, and lots and lots of treats. By bedtime the kids should be completely worn out.

This year Jacob dressed up as a football player. Yes, I believe he was a football player last year, but that isn’t a battle I felt like fighting so he was a football player again this year. Megan and Katelyn were witches and Claire was their black cat. Drew will be bumblebee when we go outside but an army dude when we are inside. It seemed to fit him perfectly with his cute little army crawl he has going now (thanks to Aunt Rach for the idea). Wishing you all lots of yummy treats and scary fun!
