Jacob’s School Poems

Ode to the Clock
By: Jake Johnson
Inspired by: Pablo Neruda

Under the ceiling, the clock
has dropped my sense of patience
Clocks
like bears
waiting to hibernate,
ticking
in everyone’s brain
tocking around like
a ball being bounced
very slowly

It sends a signal,
a signal to the brain
so you think no more

The clock is
a psychological tool
to DESTROY YOUR BRAIN!!!!!

6 Ways to Kill a Potgut
By: Jake Johnson

Throughout the canyon
all the potguts stood still
because the hunter
had a gun

They started to run
and he shot them
with a pistol
making the intestines…
drag

Both the hunters
are one
both hunters and a potgut
aren’t one

The hunter pulls out
a slingshot
giving it
a wound nobody can
comprehend,
except,
the dead

Then he pulls out a shotgun
and the potgut
is immobilized
with fear
he takes one shot
and the potgut…
is gone,
nobody knows where

The only clues
are the stains
on the grass

School Exploration
By: Jake Johnson

Is school fun?
Is school cool?
Would you rather play in the sun?
Or swim in the pool?

Some classes are such a bore
But others are experimental
They help you soar
So you want to explore
That way you grow more

Your friends say
“Teacher this, teacher that”
They get to play
You can’t even chat

Homework is a pain
It makes me go insane
What’s the point of it?
Do they tell us?
Nope
We have to shush and sit

I once had a friend
He said to loosen up
Or you’ll be living in the dump
He said “School is the judge”
We used to not budge
But then we did
I felt like a kid, again

We have changed our perspective
And we know school is important
So make school worth it
Don’t make silly mistakes
You shouldn’t just sit
Listen
And don’t throw a fit
