We spent our week of spring break in southern California (along with 50 percent of the school district). We had a great time overall and wanted to record our adventure for our memories.
Flying in St. George
On our way down to San Diego we stayed in St. George with Gary and Kathy. Gary even took us boys up flying in his airplane.

Drew got a little nervous during one hard banked turn, but it was sure fun to fly with Grandpa Gary.
Exploring theme parks
Manina and Rachel got together and decided to buy the San Diego city pass which gave us admission to a lot of different theme parks.
Legoland

Sea World
Zoo
It was a rainy day at the zoo, so we didn’t last for very long. San Diego has been in a long drought, but it only takes a visit from the Mighty Johnsons to guarantee bad weather.

Hanging with the Denneys
Our good friends Brett and Kristy Denney moved down to San Diego a couple years ago, and they were brave and kind enough to let us stay with them for a couple nights.
We had fun roasting marshmallows in the backyard, and having them invite us to go swimming one late night in a drizzle and eat soggy pizza. Kristy also joined us on a couple occasions at different venues when we could coordinate schedules and make it work.
Enjoying the beach
We didn’t get a ton of beach time this trip. We stopped at Encinitas beach on Sunday when we first arrived for just a little while.
Then toward the end of the vacation, Kristy offered to take some family photos of us, so we went to Del Mar beach and took some pictures.
Mission beach
In the middle of the week we spent a day at Mission Beach and enjoyed a good weather day. The water was chilly but we had fun throwing Frisbee, skateboarding up and down the boardwalk, and hanging out in the sun.

La Jolla
We always had a great time by the beach and everyone had a lot of fun. One of the main lessons we learned from this trip was next time in California we should take the money we spent on all of the attractions and put that into our lodging and get a beach house.
Trying new things
Old town
We went to dinner one night at Rockin’ Baja, but had a hard time getting into the Mormon Battalion historical site. We tried on multiple occasions but it never worked out. Maybe next time.
Padres Baseball game
We took one night to go see the Padres play the Dodgers. Uncle Matt came down from Long Beach and joined us for a few innings. It was fun to see him.
USS Midway Museum
Took a cool audio tour of the USS Midway. Some of the kids even became honorary Midway junior rangers.

Boat Ride
We went on a harbor boat ride and saw San Diego from the coast.
