What happened this year that didn’t happen last year, or the year before, or the year before that? Not much really, but that is what is great about family traditions—they’re much the same every year.
We missed Joe and Matt and their peeps, but everyone else showed. Greg and Emily Rowberry and family also joined in the festivities. This year we went on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday which was just long enough. We did the traditional things: played board games, a lot of four-square, rolled homemade ice cream, and ate way too much junk food.
Thursday dinner we had camp calzones (a recent discovery from scout camp) and had a crazy talent show.
On Friday we split up and went for hikes. The big-boy hike was an 7 mile trek up to Red Pine Lake. It was a tough hike, but Katelyn, Megan, Jacob, and I all made it. On the way down Katelyn tripped and cut up her knee pretty good, but that was really our only setback.
Friday night we had our traditional dutch oven dinner and it was delicious as always.
Saturday morning we packed up early, just beating the rain. But we didn’t escape the injury bug. This time it was Drew, who had (what must have been) a pretty nasty wipeout on cousin Wyatt’s scooter. Drew had a pretty good bump on his forehead as a souvenir from yet another awesome Johnson Family campout.
